Welcome to WTS Puget Sound!
It was the fall of 1982 when the Puget Sound Chapter had its first general meeting. Since then, the WTS Puget Sound Chapter has come a long way and today, WTS has become one of the most visible and valued forums for discussing transportation trends and projects and highlighting women in transportation leadership.
A message from the WTS Puget Sound Board President
It is truly an honor to serve as President of the WTS Puget Sound Chapter during our 45th anniversary year. This milestone is a celebration of the leaders who built our chapter and the countless board members, volunteers, and sponsors who continue to advance our mission. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the story behind our name and the values that have guided us for nearly half a century.
The origin of our organization's full name, Women’s Transportation Seminar, tells an important part of that story. When WTS was founded, women were often discouraged from participating in professional organizations unless they focused purely on direct educational opportunities. Sponsors were also hesitant to support organizations with broader goals for advancing women’s professional growth. In response, the WTS name created an opening through education while building something far greater: a community grounded in connection, advocacy, mentorship, and the advancement of women.
Over the past 45 years, some of our most meaningful impacts have often happened beyond the formal agenda: when members shared a connection, when a mentor offered guidance, when a colleague opened a door, or when a professional relationship became a lasting source of encouragement and support.
That is the magic of WTS. It is a community where women and our allies lift one another up, share opportunity, and create pathways to leadership. I am proud of the legacy our chapter has built and deeply honored to help carry it forward.
