Our Chapter

Welcome to WTS Puget Sound!

It was the fall of 1982 when the Puget Sound Chapter had its first general meeting. Since then, the WTS Puget Sound Chapter has come a long way and today, WTS has become one of the most visible and valued forums for discussing transportation trends and projects and highlighting women in transportation leadership.

A message from the WTS Puget Sound Board President

Terri Marsh Puget Sound Seattle President 2023-2024

I am excited to usher in our 2023 – 2024 board for the Puget Sound chapter! Thank you to our sponsors and volunteers — your efforts allow us to expand our engagement and support of women in the transportation industry each year. I also want to thank my mentors and advocates over the course of my career, who I am fortunate to learn from and who have helped me grow as a leader.

We have a big year ahead, and our board of nearly 80 chairs and committee members has the strength to do it all. Fundraising, programming for our membership, engaging students in STEM activities, and most of all – supporting, encouraging, and celebrating women in the local transportation industry. If you haven’t already, please sign up for our listserv for biweekly updates, or consider reaching out to volunteer.

One of the privileges that comes with the role of WTS President is the opportunity to identify chapter-specific goals based on my experience as a WTS member and the conversations I’ve had with many of our local committee members and WTS volunteers. Some of the specific goals our chapter will be focused on this year include 1) reconnecting current members through technical programs that highlight projects and people in our region; 2) continuing to expand membership and engagement into other sectors of the industry, like aviation and construction; and 3) reaching out to past scholarship winners to find out where they are now, how WTS helped them in their career journeys, and to encourage them as they build their networks as future leaders in the industry.

Our WTS chapter is strong because of our members and our work towards inclusion.  I encourage you to reach out to share event or speaker ideas; to volunteer at one of our many upcoming events; to flag interesting articles for our reading group; to express interest in sponsorships of any level; to highlight women in the industry doing something awesome by nominating them for our awards program; and by extending our scholarship applications into your personal and career networks to find one young woman who can benefit. The ways to engage are numerous, and we look forwarding to seeing you and hearing from you throughout the year. Let’s make this year a great one, together!

Sincerely,

Teri M. Marsh, PE
