Collegiate Student Chapter

Efforts are underway to start a statewide WTS Delaware Student Chapter for undergraduate and graduate students, specifically for those who identify as female. Quarterly statewide workshops, panel discussions, and site visits will be hosted at the collegiate level and students will also be invited to participate in WTS DE Professional Chapter events. The goal of the Student Chapter is to create a community of like-minded collegiate students across the state who share a passion for the transportation industry. The mission of the chapter is to attract, sustain, connect, and advance collegiate careers to grow and strengthen the next generation of the transportation industry. To date, contact has been made with Delaware State University, Delaware Technical Community College, and the University of Delaware. Core values include:
- Expand - Currently, the Student Chapter is being run by the WTS Delaware Student Outreach Committee. By expanding the number of student members, our goal is to establish a Student Chapter Executive Board on each campus to promote the advancement of the transportation and traffic engineering profession.
- Collaborate - Establishing multiple student chapters within the state of Delaware gives our Student Chapter members the ability to interconnect not only amongst their peers and classmates but also collaborate with students from other colleges and universities. Through collaboration, students will expand their network, increase communication skills, and enhance professional development skills.
- Expose - Bridging the gap between academia and the transportation profession, we work closely with professors and industry professionals to provide students a balance of resources. Aligning with our vision, through exposure to the various roles and careers in transportation, we encourage our members to pursue a career in transportation.
- Adapt - We embrace change as proof that we are making progress. While encouraging diversity and inclusion, practicing adaptability renews our mindset and builds resilience. In the growing world of transportation, on an academic and professional industry level, adaptability is key!
