WE NEED YOU!

Help Shape the Future of WTS SF Bay Area

We need your ideas, your creativity…we need YOU!

Ever wonder how the WTS San Francisco Bay Area chapter operates? How the programs and activities are planned? How the Annual Event comes together? How the funds are managed? The answer is volunteer power.

If you have a burning desire to change or improve something, or simply just want to get more involved in WTS, then step up to the plate! Now is your chance to help shape the future of this dynamic chapter. It’s also a great opportunity to meet people and make new friends.

Several committees are seeking members to help them carry out their goals. If you want to know more about a particular committee and what all is involved to be a committee member, reach out to the various contacts below. We would be delighted to chat with anyone who is interested.

Annual Event Committee

The group plans and coordinates the chapter’s biggest event of the year, which generates scholarship funding for young women and honors award recipients.

Volunteers are needed to help with tasks leading up to the event and on the day-of, such as name tag stuffing, media creation, venue set-up, and guest registration

Assistance is needed with: improving and maintaining the website; quarterly newsletter; email and social media communications; and overall strategies to improve reach.

Programs and Events Committee

Programs and Events - With a broad scope of responsibilities, this group has several leads to coordinate the chapter’s most visible feature – our programs and events. These include professional development, special events and technical programs held throughout the Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and Monterey).

Volunteers are needed to help plan interesting programs, assist with logistics, and create name tags (using an Eventbrite web base) for the various events.

Scholarships Committee

This committee promotes educational pursuits of the transportation fields by publicizing and soliciting applications for the chapter scholarships. They review applications, recommend recipients, and present the awards at the Annual Event.

The chair is interested in revamping the scholarship program and is particularly interested in increasing the number of applications across a broader geographical area. Committee members across the chapter area are needed.

Transportation YOU Committee

Transportation YOU is a hands-on, interactive, mentoring program that offers young girls ages 13-18 an introduction to a wide variety of transportation careers. The chapter partners with Girls, Inc.

New committee members are needed to help plan and execute the program: including field trips, mentorship program, assist with Engineer’s Week events that occur in February annually, and perform outreach to increase visibility of TYOU programs.

Chair

Kendall Dobson – [email protected]

Women's Leadership Program

This committee helps organize a number of Leadership Program opportunities for WTS members. The mid-level program is typically held twice a year, and the executive-level program is held every two to three years. Both leadership programs provide a unique opportunity for women in transportation to step into their power, own their strengths, develop their leadership presence and signature style, and develop strategic thinking about their career paths. To date, over 200 women have participated and graduated from our leadership programs. These programs have become one of the more popular opportunities for the chapter and as popularity grows, so do the needs to help manage the effort.

Additional committee members are needed to plan each cohort, help build a website presence, and assist with collateral production.

Membership Committee

The Membership team bears the responsibility of identifying and expanding our membership base via a plan to improve member participation and satisfaction.

Assistance is sought to track and report membership numbers and status; conduct surveys and other assessments and host events such as “Meet WTS”.

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Our Chapter created this committee about two years ago to be devoted to identifying opportunities for education and growth to promote diversity within our chapter and the community of professionals and organizations that we serve in the greater Bay Area.

Volunteers are welcome to help collaborate with other committees to implement our vision and organize forums for change.
