Transportation YOU
Transportation YOU is a hands‐on, interactive program that offers elementary school-aged through high school-aged students, specifically those who identify as female, an introduction to a wide variety of transportation careers. Transportation YOU was established in 2009 in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Through Transportation YOU programming, WTS Chapters work to make a difference in the lives of students in their communities, offering activities that introduce all modes of transportation, and encourage school course selection in math, science, technology, and communications – the stepping-stones to exciting career options; providing our sector with a diverse, prepared workforce.

The WTS Capital Summit
The WTS Capital Summit, a signature program of Transportation YOU, offers students an opportunity to meet transportation industry thought leaders, government and administration officials, and college students beginning their own career journeys in the industry. Historically, the Summit brings high school-aged mentees and transportation professional mentors to the Washington, D.C. area for a 4-day summer program of tours, lectures, and interactive experiences showcasing careers in transportation. Student participants are involved in Transportation YOU at a local level, and then apply to the Summit through WTS Chapters.

Bringing Transportation YOU to Tampa Bay
WTS Tampa Bay is committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation of transportation professionals and industry leaders. Through the Transportation YOU program, we want to connect students to real-world transportation careers by bringing hands‑on, engaging STEM experiences into local classrooms and community events.
Most recently, WTS Tampa Bay volunteers participated in the 2026 USF Engineering Expo, where we engaged with K–12 students through hands-on, transportation-focused activities designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
As this program continues to grow, we’re looking to expand our outreach and impact across the Tampa Bay region. We invite our members, corporate partners, schools, and community organizations to help us build the next phase of Transportation YOU by:
- Hosting or sponsoring student outreach events
- Providing volunteers to engage with students
- Connecting us with local schools, STEM programs, or youth organizations
- Supporting curriculum-based, transportation-focused activities
If you or your organization is interested in partnering with WTS Tampa Bay to inspire future transportation leaders, we want to hear from you.
