Application Deadline for 2025-2026 Scholarships is Saturday, December 27, 2025. 

Scholarship Overview:

To encourage women pursuing careers in transportation, the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of WTS awards at least six local scholarships to graduate, undergraduate, community college, and high school students.  These scholarships have been made possible through generous contributions from our corporate members.

Every year, the scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant’s specific transportation involvement and goals, job skills, and academic record.  Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.  Past applicants have backgrounds in civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering, as well as urban planning, public policy, public safety, and emergency response.  Any students that may be eligible for the scholarships should apply!

Wanda J. Schafer Graduate Scholarship/Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship

The Wanda Schafer Graduate Scholarship was established in 2002 by the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS). The scholarship is designed to encourage women to pursue career paths in transportation. The scholarship is awarded to women pursuing graduate studies in transportation or a related field. This award is for $2,500.

Molitoris Leadership Scholarship & DFW Chapter WTS Undergraduate Leadership Scholarship

Part of the WTS goal of fostering the development of women in the transportation field can be realized by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. The WTS Molitoris Leadership Scholarship is awarded to women pursuing undergraduate studies in transportation or a related field who demonstrate leadership skills, ability, and interest. This award is for $2,500.

Sharon D. Banks Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship/DFW Chapter WTS Undergraduate Scholarship

WTS fosters the development of women in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. One way it does this is by awarding the WTS Sharon D. Banks Memorial Scholarship to women pursuing undergraduate studies in transportation or a related field. This award is for $2,500.

Bridgette Beato – Leadership Legacy & Monique Pegues Leadership Scholarship

WTS launched the Leadership Legacy Scholarship in 2007. Through this award, WTS provides a $2,500 scholarship to an outstanding young woman pursuing graduate studies working toward a career in transportation or a related field, and who demonstrates a specific interest in advancing transportation innovation.

Community College, Junior College, Trade School Scholarship

WTS fosters the development of women in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in transportation. One way it does this is by awarding community, technical, or trade college scholarships to women pursuing transportation- related study at community and trade colleges. This award is for $2,500.

Transportation YOU High School Scholarship

WTS fosters the development of women and girls in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals and students to undertake careers in the area of transportation. One way it does this is by awarding the WTS Transportation YOU High School Scholarship to girls pursuing high school studies in science, technology, engineering, and math. This award is for $2,500.

WTS/Gorrondona & Associates, Inc. High School Scholarship

The WTS/Gorrondona & Associates, Inc. High School Scholarship was founded in 2015 with the goal of encouraging female high school seniors to pursue STEM studies at the community college or university level. These scholarships are targeted towards Dallas-Fort Worth area students with a financial need, who are among the first of their family members to attend college, are working to contribute to a family budget or participating in activities outside of schoolwork and wish to pursue a career in the transportation field. This scholarship is open to any student from the DFW metroplex, regardless of where they are enrolled or plan to enroll for college. This award is for $2,500.

WTS/HDR Future Forward Scholarship

The HDR Future Forward Scholarship aims to help prepare a high school senior or undergraduate student for a bright future in the pursuit of a STEM degree and pathway into the transportation industry. Both WTS and HDR seek to cultivate the next generation to advance the transportation industry for the public good. This scholarship is open to any student from the DFW metroplex, regardless of where they are enrolled or plan to enroll for college. This award is for $2,500. 

Scott Forbes Scholarship

The Scott Forbes Scholarship was established in 2024 to honor the late William Scott Forbes, P.E. This scholarship is open to any student from the DFW metroplex, regardless of where they are enrolled or plan to enroll for college. This award is for $3,000.

WTS/HATCH EmpowerHer Scholarship

The WTS/HATCH EmpowerHer Scholarship aims to support female high school seniors or undergraduate students aspiring to pursue STEM degrees and careers in the transportation industry. Both WTS and HATCH are committed to inspiring and equipping future leaders who will drive innovation and progress within the transportation industry, contributing to its growth and societal impact. This award is for $2,500.

WTS/VRX Scholarship 

The VRX Scholarship aims to support female undergraduate or graduate students aspiring to pursue careers in the transportation industry. WTS and VRX share a commitment to fostering the next generation of innovators and leaders who will shape the future of transportation through impactful contributions and forward-thinking. This award is for $2,500. 


Eligible Universities for DFW Chapter Nominated Scholarships:

Dallas Baptist University, LeTourneau University, Paul Quinn College, Southern Methodist University, Tarleton State University, Texas Christian University, Texas Wesleyan University, University of Dallas, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at Dallas, other universities in North Texas.

Eligible Community/Junior Colleges and Trade Schools for DFW Chapter Nominated Scholarships:

Collin County Community College, Dallas County Community College District, Hill College, Navarro College, Northeast Texas Community College, Weatherford College, Brown Mackie College (Dallas), Lincoln College of Technology (Grand Prairie), Tarrant County College, Remington College (Dallas, Fort Worth), Strayer University (Cedar Hill, Fort Worth, North Dallas), other schools in North Texas.

If you are working on a degree related to transportation through a University, Community/Junior College, or Trade School that is not mentioned above, but has a DFW location, please apply!
