Recognition Awards

WTS Greater Indianapolis is excited to celebrate and honor the achievements of members of the Indiana transportation community through our annual recognition awards. Recipients will be honored at our 6th Annual Awards Gala in November  2024. Check out the information below about this year's awards categories.

Rosa Parks Diversity Award 

This award recognizes an individual or organization that has made significant contributions in promoting diversity and cultural awareness while promoting the mission of WTS. Applications/nominations for the award should include the following:

  • Describe how the nominee contributed significantly to promoting diversity, inclusion and multi-cultural awareness within their organization, the transportation industry, or in a project or activity that supports the goals and mission of WTS.

  • Describe how the nominee exhibited extraordinary efforts or initiatives in facilitating professional opportunities for women and minorities.

 

Woman of the Year Award

This category is designed to reach out beyond our membership to honor a woman who is an outstanding role model in transportation. Selection shall be based on the following criteria:

  • A woman who is a leader in transportation and has made an outstanding contribution to the transportation industry.

  • A woman who has directly contributed toward the advancement of women and minorities through programs or opportunities in the transportation field.

  • A woman who through her career achievements and support of women in the industry has advanced the reputation and credibility of women in transportation.

 

Innovative Transportation Solutions Award

This award salutes an innovative transportation project led by a woman.  Applications/nominations for the award should include the following:

  • Describe the purpose of the transportation initiative, project, or policy and the number of women involved from initiation to completion.

  • Identify the key elements of the project and how the female project manager successfully implemented those elements.

  • Illustrate how the female project manager successfully met and overcame challenges.

  • Explain how the project achieved its purpose.

 

Honorable Ray LaHood Award 

This award was created to recognize men who are not only leaders in transportation, but who have also actively led by example in seeking opportunities to advance the WTS mission and have made outstanding contributions toward the advancement of women and minorities.  Applications/nominations for the award should include the following:

 
  • A man who has led by example, seeks out opportunities to advance and advocate for women in his own organization, and actively ensures that women are able to compete for key positions of authority within that organization. 
     
  • A man has directly contributed toward the advancement of women and minorities through programs or opportunities in the transportation field. 
     
  • A man who has made an outstanding contribution to the transportation industry.
