Diversity Committee
The WTS Connecticut Diversity Committee supports diversity throughout the Chapter by working with other committees and membership to develop an environment that welcomes and supports all. We believe that embracing the differences and similarities in our members including ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, neurodiversity, & profession benefits both our members and the world at large. If you have ideas that you believe can help with our mission or are interested in being a part of the WTS CT Diversity Committee, please contact Kelley Kelly at [email protected].
April is Neurodiversity Awareness Month
A personal perspective by WTS CT member Kelley Kelly:
I’ve read that up to 1 in 5 people are “neurodivergent”… I’m one of them and can tell you the workplace can be a place where neurodivergence sticks out. Understanding that different people’s brains function differently (and how) can build not only rapport but enable everyone to work to their highest potential.
Here are some resources I like that talk about this subject.
- How Neurodivergent People Can Thrive In a Corporate Culture
Brett Whitmarsh (aka The AuDHD Boss) has built his YouTube channel on talking about his own experiences in the workplace as a late-diagnosed AuDHD corporate manager. - Neurodiversity Is a Competitive Advantage
Online hiring platform Indeed examines how not understanding neurodivergence can lead to overlooking a great candidate that could take your company to the next level. - RAADS-R Test Online - Free Autism Screening for | raads-r.net
This self-test for autism should not be relied on as a diagnostic tool but has been shown to be pretty accurate and is helpful as a self-reflection tool. - Neurodivergent: What It Is, Symptoms & Types
Cleveland Clinic description of neurodivergence – useful for a greater depth of understanding of how broad neurodivergence is.
And what is my neurodivergence? I’m late-diagnosed ADHD, with one ADHD child with anxiety and two AuDHD kids. 😊 In addition to the resources above, I’m happy to answer your questions and be a resource on the topic for our Chapter. Please feel free to reach out to me.
Also, join us for a virtual workshop with neurodivergence expert, Dr. Victoria Verlezza, on April 23rd from 12 -1!
