Scholarships
WTS Columbus is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for qualified female students interested in pursuing careers in transportation. Local awardees will also be eligible to compete with other states' winners for WTS national-level scholarships.

Maria Alvarez – Molitoris Leadership Scholarship (Undergraduate)
Maria is a civil engineering student from Venezuela pursuing a bachelor’s degree at The Ohio State University. She is passionate about designing and building strong communities, and transportation engineering allows her to make a lasting impact on infrastructure that supports everyday life.
Laine Groty – Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship (Graduate)
Laine's ambition is to reduce socioeconomic inequality, eliminate transportation casualties, and improve public health by planning dependable active- and public-transit infrastructure. Laine is a 4th-year Civil Engineering student at The Ohio State University in the BS/MS program and will be pursuing dual master's in Transportation Engineering and City & Regional Planning at OSU.
Madison Richards – Columbus Chapter Local Selection Award
Maddie is a senior studying civil engineering at the University of Akron, and she is from Hilliard, OH. She has previously served as the ASCE Student Chapter President at UA, and is currently involved in Geo-Challenge, UESI Surveying, and University Ambassadors. Maddie has had three summer internships working in transportation, and she plans to focus her full-time career on transportation after she graduates this year in May.

The Columbus Chapter will be accepting applications soon for the following scholarships in 2026. Individuals are encouraged to apply for all scholarships to which they are eligible.
Undergraduate:
Molitoris Leadership: $5,000
Graduate:
Helene M. Overly Memorial: $5,000
All applicants must be female, Ohio-based, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and plan to pursue a career in transportation. BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnicities) candidates are encouraged to apply.
Note: Freshman applicants must have grades available by December 31.
