WTS Philadelphia Student Chapter's Benjamin Franklin Bridge Tour!

On April 25, the WTS Philadelphia Student Chapter toured the Ben Franklin Bridge with representatives from the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA). DRPA staff shared insights into the bridge’s nearly 100-year history and its evolution to meet modern needs. Engineer Mike Howard led the group across the bridge and through maintenance shop, highlighting structural features and rehabilitation projects like the dehumidification system that prevents rust. Students also learned about the historical context of Camden and Philadelphia during the bridge’s construction. Despite the height, the tour left students with a deeper appreciation and a few history lessons for every future crossing. The WTS Student Chapter would like to thank DRPA, Lis Klawunn, Mike Howard, and Darlene Callands for their time and expertise!
