WTS Philadelphia Celebrates Women's Equality Day

WTS Philadelphia is proud to recognize Women’s Equality Day, which is celebrated on August 26th to commemorate the date in 1920 that granted women, after a long fight for suffrage, the constitutional right to vote.

However, the 19th Amendment did not eliminate discriminatory state laws, including poll taxes and literacy tests. So while some Black women were able to vote in the 19th Amendment was ratified, it wasn’t until the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act that all African Americans nationwide were granted the full right to vote.

Today, we honor those who worked hard and endured difficult struggles to obtain this right. Their efforts are an inspiration to keep advocating for gender and racial equality.

To celebrate this important day, Urban Engineers, Inc. (Urban) is engaging in a campaign highlighting its oldest Employee Resource Group: the Urban Women’s Professional Network (UWPN).

Urban is a multidisciplinary consulting firm that provides comprehensive planning, design, environmental, and construction support services for a range of sectors, including facilities, ports & waterways, public transportation, railroads, airports, energy & utilities, bridges, and roadways. UWPN was founded in 2006 with a mission to support and advance women in the AEC  industry.  Through mentorship, networking events, skill-building workshops, and open discussions, UWPN creates a platform for members to share experiences, exchange ideas, and encourage one another’s professional and personal development.
