On Sunday, October 19, 2025, the WTS DC Chapter’s Transportation YOU committee, in collaboration with the Professional Development Committee, hosted the Exploring Career Paths with Women in Transportation seminar for Girl Scouts from the National Capital Region. The
event took place at the American Public Transportation Association headquarters, at 1300 I Street NW, Washington, DC. Ten enthusiastic third, fourth, and fifth grade Girl Scouts—some with WTS DC Chapter moms—participated in a series of engaging activities designed to introduce them to careers in the transportation industry. Volunteers Victoria Karolenko, Lindsey Robertson Lentz, Brandon Buckner, Jessica Allen, Roxanne Feige, and Polly Hanson led interactive stations representing various transportation modes and professions. Each scout received a “Transportation Passport” upon arrival and rotated through stations that included aviation bingo, transit technology logo matching, bus route planning, rail infrastructure building, transportation financing, and marketing campaign design. Scouts earned stamps or stickers at each station and learned about the diverse roles that keep our transportation systems moving. At the conclusion of the event, each Girl Scout received a specially designed badge to recognize the knowledge they gained and the hands-on work they completed throughout the session.

In addition, participants took home WMATA-themed swag and a certificate of completion to commemorate their experience. This inaugural collaboration between the WTS DC Chapter and the Girl Scouts was a resounding success, and we’re excited about the potential to make this an annual tradition.
