On October 4th, WTS-DC and COMTO-DC held a joint bike tour through Prince George’s County, Maryland. The group explored key segments of the Northeast Branch Trail—one of the earliest parts of the Anacostia Tributary Trail System—and learned about its role in connecting communities along the river. Along the route, we visited two notable historic landmarks: the College Park Airport and the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail, both important pieces of the region’s transportation history. We were joined by:

  • Meg Young, Deputy Director of Active Transportation and Micromobility, Office of Environment and Sustainable Transportation, MDOT
  • Erv Beckett, Chief, Highway & Bridge Design Division, Prince George’s County DPW&T
  • Rene Lord-Attivor, Chief Engineer, Prince George’s County DPIE
  • Bob Patton, Trail Development Program Manager, Prince George’s County Parks

who shared updates on trail projects, maintenance efforts, and plans to improve regional access and connectivity.

Hearing directly from these officials gave the group a clearer understanding of the ongoing work behind the county’s trail network, including improvements along the Northeast Branch and its connections to the Anacostia River Trail and other nearby routes. Their insights were truly appreciated, and we thank each of them for taking the time to join the ride. A big thank-you also goes to Jeff Parker for organizing the tour and bringing everyone together for a great day on the trails.
