WTS-DC is proud to spotlight Morgan Lyons of Epstein Creative Group, recipient of the chapter's 2025 Member of the Year Award. A dedicated volunteer, communications professional, and passionate advocate for transportation users, Morgan has become a familiar face within the chapter through her leadership on the Communications Committee and her commitment to celebrating the accomplishments of fellow members. 

Morgan's WTS journey began in 2018 while working at Sharp & Company, where she first became involved with the WTS Baltimore Chapter's Communications Committee before transitioning to WTS-DC as her work increasingly focused on the Washington region's transit industry. She later supported the chapter's Corporate Sponsorship efforts before stepping into the role of Communications Chair in 2023, a position she continues to hold today. Through her leadership, Morgan has helped elevate member achievements, expand chapter communications, and strengthen the connections that unite the WTS-DC community. 

Like many transportation professionals, Morgan did not initially set out to build a career in the industry. While attending American University, she began an internship supporting transportation outreach programs and quickly discovered a passion for helping communities understand and engage with transportation projects. That passion grew through her work supporting transit agencies and public sector clients, particularly in communicating service changes, infrastructure improvements, and public engagement initiatives. Morgan credits transportation's direct impact on people's daily lives as one of the reasons she finds the field so rewarding. She is especially motivated by ensuring that riders and communities have the information they need to understand how projects and decisions affect them. 

When asked about her most memorable WTS experience, Morgan points to her first WTS International Conference in New Orleans. The experience helped transform her view of the organization from a professional network into a true community. Spending time with fellow chapter members outside of formal meetings and events allowed her to build lasting relationships and gain confidence as a young professional. Those connections have since shaped both her volunteer experience and professional growth within the industry. 

As Communications Chair, Morgan has also found tremendous satisfaction in helping shine a spotlight on fellow members. Whether sharing professional achievements, highlighting leadership milestones, or amplifying member stories, she enjoys helping others receive recognition for their contributions to the transportation industry. She notes that one of the greatest strengths of WTS is the opportunity to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of women across the profession while fostering meaningful personal connections along the way.

Reflecting on her career, Morgan is particularly proud of her work supporting major initiatives at WMATA, including the Fleet of the Future railcar program and the multi-year Platform Improvement Project. Both efforts required extensive public outreach and communications, helping riders navigate significant system changes while supporting long-term improvements to the region's transit network. Morgan views these experiences as defining moments in her professional journey and examples of the meaningful impact that effective communication can have on transportation projects. 

Receiving the 2025 Member of the Year Award was an especially meaningful recognition for Morgan because it reflects the relationships, volunteer efforts, and sense of community she has built through WTS over the years. Her dedication to elevating others, strengthening chapter engagement, and advancing the transportation profession embodies the spirit of WTS and makes her a deserving recipient of this honor. 

For members who are new to WTS or considering becoming more involved, Morgan's advice is simple: show up and make connections. She encourages members to attend chapter events, participate in conferences, and focus on building authentic relationships rather than solely networking for business opportunities.

As Morgan explains, “You don't always have to talk about work stuff. We talk about work all the time. Most people don't want to feel like they're being used just to get business. If you can talk about things like family, travel, or life outside of work, it helps ease the situation and makes it feel less like a networking event and more like cool women talking about being cool women." 

That philosophy has served Morgan well. Some of her most valuable professional opportunities, including her current role with Epstein Creative Group, grew naturally from relationships cultivated through WTS. According to Morgan, the chapter's greatest value lies in its ability to create a welcoming community where members can support one another both professionally and personally.

Fun Fact: Transportation may run in the family. Morgan's father owned a transportation business in Atlantic City, managing convention transportation services after operating one of the city's iconic jitneys. While neither of them originally planned careers in transportation, both ultimately found their way into the industry through unexpected opportunities.
