Washington, D.C. (January 21, 2021) – January 20, 2021 was a historic day for the United States as another glass ceiling for women, black communities and people of color was broken, and Vice President Kamala Harris was sworn in as the first female Vice President in this country’s history.

In selecting his cabinet and administration, President Biden has continued to demonstrate his commitment to diversity in nominating the first openly gay man to be nominated to a Cabinet role, selecting Pete Buttigieg for Secretary of Transportation.  Additionally, President Biden has made key nominations within the Department of Transportation, that show his commitment to a diverse administration.  President Biden has nominated Polly Trottenberg, former New York City Transportation Commissioner, as Deputy Secretary of Transportation, appointed Nuria Fernandez, outgoing CEO and General Manager of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority,  to head the Federal Transit Administration, Stephanie Pollock, currently Secretary of Massachusetts DOT, to head the Federal Highway Administration and Brad Mims, currently CEO of COMTO National- a WTS International Industry Partner, as Deputy Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration.

“We are thrilled to congratulate Polly Trottenberg, Nuria Fernandez, Stephanie Pollock, and Brad Mims for their appointments as they continue their leadership and contributions to the transportation industry. They are dedicated public servants with a demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe, equitable, and environmentally sustainable transportation system, and bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience to their respective positions,” states Paula Hammond, Chair, WTS International Board of Directors. “As proven transportation leaders, these women and men are emblematic of WTS International’s goal to advance transportation by advancing women’s contributions at all levels. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Polly, Nuria, Stephanie, and Brad and with the Department of Transportation as a whole, under incoming Secretary Buttigieg”

In conversations with the Biden-Harris Transportation Transition Team, WTS International stressed the importance of an administration, and Department of Transportation, that was representative of the citizens it serves, among other priorities.  “We commend President Biden and Vice President Harris for their commitment to diversity and equity within their administration,” Sara Stickler, Executive Director says. “WTS International is elated to be congratulating three of our Executive Members and an Industry Partner on joining the Department of Transportation in leadership roles.
