Each month we are featuring one of our 2021 WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Awards recipients. This month we are spotlighting our Employer of the Year Recipient, Y2K Engineering.

We asked the company's principal, Yung Koprowski, to share more about the company and its commitment to advancing women in the transportation industry.

How does Y2K support women looking to join or move up in the transportation industry?

Y2K facilitates a company culture that promotes transparent discussions surrounding personal and professional goals and provides any and all resources necessary to meet those goals. At Y2K, employees and company leadership alike are equally invested in an individual’s growth. This is apparent by the flexible work environment, work/life balance practiced team-wide, and support and funding for training opportunities and participation in outside organizations such as WTS.

Why is it important to both support and create career development paths for women in your organization?

Y2K believes that investing in people is not only the right thing to do but is the fiscally smart thing to do as well. By supporting and creating career development paths, we create a strong company culture that ensures individuals are engaged, challenged, and therefore successful, which positively impacts the company’s success.

What benefits have you seen in having your team members participate in WTS programs?

Our team members’ participation in WTS programs has led to a noticeable increase in confidence, client-facing skills, and network of support. Y2K knows that this participation empowers our team members, allowing them to grow personally and professionally.

What words of wisdom do you have for young women who are entering or are interested in entering the transportation industry?

Go for it! Show up with enthusiasm, tenacity, and individuality. Don’t assimilate to the industry, transportation needs your fresh ideas and perspectives. The industry benefits from a diversity of thought and experience.
