WTS

President's Message - Spring 2026

Dear WTS-DC Chapter Members and Friends,

My name is Shelley Wynne and I am the newly elected WTS-DC Chapter President. I am very excited to start my term as Chapter President. I have been involved in WTS since 2013, serving on the Scholarship Committee and holding positions of Treasurer and Vice President for the Hampton Roads Chapter. After moving to Northern Virginia in 2019, I served on the Scholarship Committee and Program Logistics Committee for the DC Chapter as well as Treasurer and Vice President. I have a passion for WTS and its mission in advancing women in transportation.

It has been a busy start to 2026 for our Chapter. On February 8th, we held the WTS-DC Chapter Strategic Planning Session with over 40 WTS-DC Board members in attendance to plan out our goals and events for the year. On February 12th, the WTS-DC Chapter Legislative Committee planned our first event of the year partnering with the Women in Government Relations (WGR) to host a timely and engaging moderated conversation focused on Congress’s upcoming reauthorization of the surface transportation programs. The event brought together policy leaders and practitioners to discuss priorities, challenges, and opportunities shaping the future of transportation infrastructure. On March 3rd, WTS-DC held a panel event with Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) hearing its mission to deliver infrastructure improvements that will expand modern passenger rail service across the commonwealth.

A large delegation from our chapter is planning to attend the 2026 WTS International Annual Conference, in May in Los Angeles, California. The conference will host engaging panels, technical tours and networking opportunities as well as fellowship with other WTS members and industry partners.

We have many more events planned for the spring and summer including panel events with leaders across the modes and agencies, so please check our programs calendar regularly.

I am always happy to talk about WTS and how we can improve what we do as a chapter, so please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any feedback or thoughts to share.

Sincerely,

Shelley Wynne

WTS-DC Chapter President
