Joint Spring Bike Tour: Alexandria

By Regis Stinson

On May 17th, WTS-DC, COMTO DC, APA-DC, and YPT-DC teamed up for a joint bike tour through Alexandria, VA, exploring the city’s growing bike infrastructure. Led by Bryan Hayes from the City of Alexandria, the ride highlighted recent improvements, upcoming plans, and the city’s focus on safer, more accessible biking.

Starting at Potomac Yard Metro, the group rode through Old Town, across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, and along the scenic Mount Vernon Trail. Bryan pointed out new facilities like the contraflow bike lane on Glendale Avenue and shared how public feedback has shaped the city’s plans—from improved signage to etiquette reminders along the trail.

Along the way, the group passed historic landmarks and paused to discuss the intersection of transportation, community, and equity. The event was a chance to learn, connect, and see infrastructure in action—on two wheels.
