SMK Services, Inc. to Receive the WTS-Boston 2025 Employer of the Year Award

WTS-Boston is proud to announce that SMK Services, Inc. has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Employer of the Year Award.

This honor recognizes an organization that supports WTS through membership, sponsorship, and employee involvement; has a strong organizational structure with women in executive and senior positions leading key initiatives; is committed to advancing women in the transportation industry through established career development and succession programs, continued education programs, and professional development support; and provides valuable internship opportunities that encourage and support women entering the transportation field.

SMK Services, a local, woman-owned and operated construction and project management firm, prioritizes the advancement of women. They value inclusivity and diversity, believing that an inclusive workplace leads to stronger outcomes. They appreciate the unique perspectives and contributions of all employees, celebrating diversity in gender, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. SMK embraces the advancement of women within the firm and the industry. The women of SMK are strongly supported in the enrollment of company-reimbursed continuing education opportunities such as webinars, programs, educational tours, and conferences. With women comprising nearly half of the workforce and occupying two-thirds of leadership roles, gender diversity is one of SMK’s defining strengths. In the last three years, SMK has more than doubled in size and has doubled the number of female employees.

SMK supports the WTS-Boston Chapter through memberships, committee involvement, event and panel participation, and sponsorships of the chapter and Golf Outing. SMK is an Executive-level sponsor of WTS-Boston, and their employees have planned WTS-Boston Summer Tours, participated in the WTS-Boston WBE Small Business Panel, and currently serve as co-chair on the WTS-Boston Student Chapter Committee. SMK encourages all employees, clients, and subconsultants to attend WTS events, including monthly luncheons, the Golf Outing, and the Awards and Scholarships Banquet.

About the Award Recipient

Founded in 2017, SMK Services is a local DBE/WBE transportation consultancy firm with a foundation in heavy civil construction. They leverage decades of general contracting field experience to develop comprehensive build strategies tailored to each project’s needs, providing clients with insights into construction staging, sequencing, phasing, scheduling, and cost requirements. SMK has worked on flagship infrastructure projects across the Northeast with agencies such as the MBTA, MassDOT, CTDOT, NHDOT, RIDOT, and New York MTA.

SMK president and founder, Seta Kalajian, began her career with horizontal general contractors, eventually becoming a project manager on large-scale infrastructure projects like the Central Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel and Green Line Extension. With nearly 25 years of construction experience, Seta launched SMK Services to create a healthy and enjoyable work environment while delivering top-notch results for clients. Seta and SMK are committed to promoting an inclusive workplace that encourages diverse voices and ideas.
