2025 Capital Summit Recap
From June 21st-27th, WTS Philadelphia sent a mentee (Sofia S.) and mentor (Ruqaya Alfaris) pair to the WTS Capital Summit, hosted by the University of Maryland, where they were able to engage with pairs from other chapters and learn about all that the transportation industry has to offer. Read below for Sofia’s favorite parts of this year’s summit before she starts her college journey this fall:
“I had the honor to go to the Capital Summit in Washington D.C. through WTS. It was a week of amazing opportunities, and I met lots of new friends. Although one of my favorite parts had to be when we visited the Capitol Building. I loved seeing all the artistic features and historical aspects of the building while we had our tour. All the days were full of fun activities pertaining to Washington D.C. as well as transportation and civil engineering. I remember one day we visited the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and got an inside look at highway patrol, monitoring stoplights and much more. We took a tour around the buildings and I got a sense of how intricate and complicated transportation really is and all the work that goes into our roadways and trains to be able to run smoothly and safely. Overall that was one of my favorite days and one of the most informative. I am so grateful that I had this opportunity and would do it again if I had the chance.” - Sofia, 2025 Capital Summit High School Mentee
