On Wednesday, August 12, join the WTS Boston Programs Committee for the annual summer tour in partnership with MassDOT. This year’s program features a behind-the-scenes visit to the MassDOT Highway Operations Center (HOC) and Vent Building (VB) 3.
This tour provides a unique opportunity to learn how MassDOT monitors, manages, and supports the Commonwealth’s highway network and critical transportation infrastructure. At the HOC, participants will gain insight into statewide roadway operations, including incident response, coordination with field crews and partner agencies, and the use of real-time data, camera systems, communications networks, and traffic management tools to support safe and efficient travel.
The tour will also include a visit to Vent Building 3, where attendees will explore the critical life-safety systems that support Massachusetts’ underground highway facilities. Participants will learn how ventilation systems, monitoring equipment, and coordinated operations help maintain safe and breathable tunnel environments, as well as the engineering and maintenance practices required to support these complex assets.
Join MassDOT staff for an inside look at the people, technology, and systems that keep Massachusetts roadways moving and ensure the safety and reliability of underground highway operations.
