Presented by Ellen O’Brien and Nicki Buck of McFarland Johnson, this session explores design strategies for replacing small tidal bridges and culverts in Maine while restoring natural flow and addressing challenges such as tidal fluctuations, storm surge, freshwater interaction, and climate impacts. It also highlights available data, modeling approaches, and simplified design methods developed in collaboration with Maine’s Coastwise program to support effective, environmentally aligned solutions for tidal crossings.
