Hear from Hardesty & Hanover (H&H) to learn about the preliminary and final design for the rehabilitation of the East Haddam Swing Bridge for the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The East Haddam Swing Bridge is a four-span truss bridge carrying two lanes of Route 82 traffic over the Connecticut River. This steel truss bridge comprises a single-span deck truss, a single-span through truss, and a two-span through truss swing span. Originally constructed in 1913, this 465-foot center bearing swing span bridge provides a 200-foot clear channel for navigation in the main channel. The trusses are composed of riveted built-up truss members, rolled members, and forged eye-bars. Truss node connections make use of both pin and gusset plate connections.
