Upcoming Initiatives of the EDI Committee
February 2023
An organization that has diversity and doesn’t create an atmosphere of inclusion is not fully embracing equity, diversity, and inclusion, or more commonly referred to today as EDI. Urban Engineers’ staff – including Jennifer Waters (Committee Director), Rose Rinker, and Lindsay Boehner – are excited to be working to enhance the inclusion efforts of WTS Philadelphia through the organization’s EDI committee.
As the committee continues its work for this term, there are several high-level initiatives that are being focused on. The first initiative is to create enhanced opportunities for DBE firms and organizations in the industry. The second is to elevate the overall level of EDI consciousness at our local chapter. This will be done through several methods we are excited to share in the near future. The final initiative we are working on is to develop EDI programs related to our chapter’s membership.
Urban Engineers encourages staff to participate in professional organizations and take on leadership roles, especially ones that promote diversity efforts. Representatives of this effort – in addition to those serving on our EDI committee – include Matt Reese, who is the first ever Justice Equity Diversity & Inclusion committee chair for the Philadelphia Chapter ASCE’s YMF, and Carol Martsolf, who serves on the EDI committee for WTS International. She also serves as the chair of Members of Society Advancing an Inclusive Culture, which is the international board-level council for ASCE. We are proud to have our staff working to enhance EDI efforts across our industry.
