As part of a major public-private partnership with Amtrak, AECOM is serving as the Project Manager and Construction Manager (PM/CM) for the ambitious renovation and restoration of Philadelphia’s historic William H. Gray III 30th Street Station. With a role that spans support and oversight on design, construction, schedule, operations and maintenance, change and move management, contracts, change orders and project management, we are proud to help lead this once-in-a-generation effort to revitalize one of the nation’s most iconic rail hubs.

The $550 million project is the first phase of the William H. Gray III 30th Street Station District Plan, a long-term vision developed in partnership with Brandywine Realty Trust, Drexel University, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). Our technical leadership is working to preserve the station’s historic architecture and enhance the passenger experience through modernization. Upgrades include expanded retail and dining offerings, revitalized Amtrak office space, infrastructure improvements to achieve a state of good repair and redevelopment of The Porch — a landscaped public plaza that hosts food trucks and other community services.

Renovations are underway, with portions of the South Concourse already closed for new elevator and escalator installation. Phased construction will continue through 2027, with train operations remaining active throughout.

“AECOM’s longstanding collaboration with Amtrak reflects our shared commitment to strengthening the nation's passenger rail infrastructure,” said Samuel Donelson, regional Chief Executive for U.S. East and Latin America. “We’re proud to contribute our technical expertise to projects that not only preserve iconic stations like William H. Gray III 30th Street Station, but also support a more connected, resilient transportation network. Our teams are energized by the opportunity to deliver impactful, future-ready rail solutions that serve communities and fuel economic growth.”

Led by Plenary Infrastructure Philadelphia (PIP) as the master developer, this project will deliver lasting benefits for Amtrak, SEPTA and NJ TRANSIT passengers and contribute to Philadelphia’s economic vitality. In addition to station improvements, PIP will invest $2.5 million into a community impact fund that supports small business development and workforce training initiatives across the city.

AECOM is proud to support Amtrak in delivering a project that preserves William H. Gray III 30th Street Station’s historic legacy while transforming it into a modern transportation hub that will better serve the people of Philadelphia and the region for generations to come.
