Eastern PA Hosts ACEC/PA TQI Shared Intern Day in Philadelphia Office

JMT team members from the Eastern PA offices hosted the ACEC/PA TQI Shared Intern Program participants within the Philadelphia Office on June 13, 2024. The TQI Shared Intern Program is an initiative being sponsored by ACEC/PA to enrich the normal intern experience and provide additional knowledge and insight to the various aspects of the engineering industry. A group of summer interns from the program’s firms & agencies, including JMT, Traffic Planning and Design (TPD), Urban Engineers, PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and Haines and Kibblehouse (H&K), participated in a full-day program of presentations, activities, and events, led by JMT’s team members. The day’s events, kicked off by a consulting 101 intro by PA/OH Regional Manager Jim Maloney, included an office-wide “Expo” highlighting JMT’s several different services/disciplines and what they do, a Lego design competition mimicking the preparation of a deliverable to a client, and a cornhole tournament!

The group participated in a panel discussion with JMT staff, including Irene Eells (Eastern PA Area Manager), Shiny Mathew (Philadelphia-Water Resources Section Head), Greg Potens (Philadelphia- Highways), Nicole Mandjarov (Philadelphia-Architecture), and Tori Nelson (Philadelphia – Water/Wastewater) talking about their experiences from early and throughout their careers, and shared advice that the interns could carry forward as they begin their careers. The group also had the opportunity to ask questions of our JMT team, which spawned discussions about project management, continuing education, and best practices to live by within our industry.

 The day impacted the group, who will use the information and experiences gained to launch their careers.
