Summer is here! Are you looking for a free place to hang out with your friends, family or with yourself in nature? A shared use path might be a great and accessible option for you. Massachusetts has an extensive network of shared use paths that provide a travel area separate from motorized traffic for bicyclists, pedestrians, skaters, wheelchair users, joggers, and others. Shared use paths can also provide a low-stress experience for a variety of users using the network for transportation. In addition to being separate from traffic, it is an opportunity to engage with physical activity and exercise. Exposure to nature can also improve mental health and reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

WTS-Boston Diversity Committee encourages people from all ages, abilities, genders, races, ethnicities, and income levels to join us in exploring a shared use path in your neighborhood.  Whether it’s on the way to work or school or to a different city or town, there are several to discover. Go to the Mass.gov website and find the perfect Massachusetts park for your next ride, run, or walk: https://www.mass.gov/find-dcr-rail-trails-and-other-shared-use-paths.  A robust public engagement initiative also allows DCR to hear voices in making more desirable, useful paths.
