Kate Maker Selected to Receive the WTS-Boston 2021 Claire Barrett Member of the Year Award

Kate Maker currently serves as co-chair for WTS Boston’s Professional Development Committee.  Kate’s commitment to the goals and growth of WTS was particularly evident through the challenging 2020 year when all in-person events were put on-hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kate was a key organizer and executer of four highly successful professional development programs that covered a variety of timely topics, including Diversity and Inclusion and Social Media 101.

Kate is known for her enthusiasm, can-do attitude, and commitment to the WTS mission, Advancing Women, Advancing Transportation.  She previously served as Programs Committee co-chair and is still an active member of the Programs Committee.

When she isn’t promoting or supporting WTS-Boston, Kate serves as Civil/Highway Manager for Michael Baker’s local Cambridge, MA office.  Michael Baker is a leading provider of engineering and consulting services, including design, planning, architectural, environmental, construction and program management.  Kate is a registered professional engineer with more than 15 years of extensive experience designing and constructing transportation infrastructure projects.  Kate was initially drawn to transportation because of the major role it plays in everyday life, and the opportunity it provides to improve our communities. Kate is passionate about providing safe, comfortable transportation options for all roadway users regardless of age, ability and mode.  Kate also serves as the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager for the Michael Baker Cambridge office, which is a testament to her attention to detail and commitment to deliver to the highest standard.
