In a survey conducted by WTS International (WTS) in November, half of participants identified retaining and training labor to be one of their biggest challenges in the coming years. Developing our industry’s workforce and increasing its diversity will ensure a more equitable transportation industry.

WTS Transportation YOU Summit Attracts More Young Women to Industry

Every year, a group of girls have a once in a life-time experience at the Transportation YOU DC Summit. This year, 18 girs embraced every opportunity to learn about the transportation industry in Washington DC last week. The Transportation YOU DC Youth Summit spanned five days and included a visit to USDOT to meet with some of the young women from various modes who have chosen transportation as a career, and a meeting with Victor Mendez, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation.​

Southwest Airlines and Lea+Elliott Commit Support for Girls in STEM

Southwest Airlines Co. and Lea+Elliott have made substantial commitments to WTS International, the association for the global advancement of women in transportation, to support the association’s Transportation YOU program for girls aged 13 – 18. Transportation YOU is managed by WTS chapters across the U.S. with various programs that include mentorships, technical tours, and hands-on activities to encourage girls to continue on an academic path focused on STEM.
