WTS Philadelphia Commits to Change

WTS Philadelphia is dedicated to advancing women and men in transportation.

As a chapter, we are committed to helping build the future of the industry by upholding the values of our diverse membership base. This includes taking a stand in favor of inclusivity.

The death of George Floyd and so many others before him has left us with varying emotions – from sadness to frustration. While we may not always know how to express our feelings, we must be clear: racism has no place in our world. It is everyone's problem and it erodes the fabric of our communities. There are no perfect words to address the afflicted pain of black and brown people for so many years, but we cannot remain silent on the sidelines.

WTS Philadelphia encourages everyone to have the difficult conversations and acknowledges that while we do not have all – or any of – the answers…we do have a listening ear.

Moving forward, WTS Philadelphia wants to be part of the solution. We will continue to provide a safe space for conversation and a platform from which to challenge the status quo. We will advocate for outcomes rich in true diversity and inclusion. We are working now on future programming that will help us all become more integrated in the process for change. As a Board, we are launching an internal discussion group – The Phorum – and we will take advantage of professional training on racism and other matters of equality.

Join us in support of inclusivity and to acknowledge and discuss bias, systemic racial inequity, and discrimination at all levels. Let's speak up and do better for each other.

For as Bryan Stevenson once said, “Somebody has to stand when others are sitting. Somebody has to speak when others are quiet."
