On behalf of your 2024 WTS International Annual Conference Committee Co-Chairs, welcome to the vibrant city of New Orleans, a place renowned for its rich heritage, exquisite cuisine, and lively music scene.

As we gather for this conference, we are reminded of the critical role transportation plays in connecting communities and powering economies. This year’s theme, The Crescent City: Connecting Cultures, Connecting Communities, is an embodiment of our beautiful City and State. New Orleans is a city that prides itself on its diverse community and unique traditions, blending elements of European, African, and American cultures into a rich tapestry all its own. With its strategic location as a gateway to global commerce, New Orleans serves as the perfect backdrop for this week’s journey of learning and collaboration. New Orleans is a city that moves to its own rhythm, where the hum of streetcars blends with the melodies of the working riverfront. As one of only two places in the country that is served by all six Class I railroads, transportation is an integral part of the city's lifeblood. We encourage you to explore these landmarks, either on your own or as part of a technical tour, and to immerse yourself in the local flavor—indulge in the famous beignets, watch the boats pass as you enjoy a stroll along the Mississippi River, and experience the soulful rhythms of jazz that fill the air.
