The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a surge in anti-Asian violence in America. This issue is not new, but it has gained more attention in recent times. Historical examples of anti-Asian discrimination in America include the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, and the “model minority” myth. Examples of incidents of anti-Asian violence were spread on news outlets, online, and on social media, including the Atlanta spa shootings in March 2021 where 8 people, including 6 Asian women, were killed. The impact that these incidents have had on the Asian American community was highlighted and heightened fear, anxiety, and trauma.

The WTS-Boston Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee encourages people of all races, nationalities, and ethnicities to join in supporting the fight against anti-Asian violence.
