2023 Chapter Award Nominations Now Open

It's that time of the year again...Recognize the best of the best in our industry!

Below are descriptions of the eight awards and every title has a link to submit online. Who comes to mind? Who inspires you? Both third-party and self-nominations are encouraged!

Nominations are due Friday, July 21, at 11:59 PM. Please email any questions to the WTS Recognitions Committee Chair, Caitlin Ward, at [email protected]. WTS membership is not required to submit or receive a nomination.

 

1. Citizen Transportation Advocate of the Year - Honors a citizen who exemplifies and upholds the purpose of the transportation community and its goals and objectives. If the citizen’s “day job” is outside of the transportation industry, please explain any of their contributions and impacts to the transportation industry. If the citizen’s “day job” is within the transportation industry, please explain how they go above and beyond, outside of their job.

  • Describe why this nominee deserves to win.
  • Describe the nominee and their role in the transportation community.
  • Identify the key elements of the nominee’s contribution to the transportation community. 
  • Illustrate how the nominee successfully met and overcame challenges.

 

2. Employer of the Year - Honors an organization for recruiting, retaining, and advancing women.

  • Describe why this nominee deserves to win.
  • Describe the organization’s structure, including the number of women in executive and senior positions and those leading major initiatives. 
  • Describe the career development plans and succession programs in place for women to advance within the organization. 
  • Describe and provide example(s) of how the organization provides continuing education of its female employees through professional education, membership in professional organizations, or professional development opportunities.
  • Describe and provide example(s) of how the organization encourages female students to enter the transportation field by providing internship opportunities.
  • Describe and provide example(s) of how the organization supports WTS through memberships, sponsorships, and employee involvement at the local and international levels.

 

3. Harold W. Barley Regional Partnership Award - Honors an individual or organization that demonstrates a commitment to the advancement of the regional transportation network.

  • Describe why this nominee deserves to win.
  • Describe how the nominee has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of the regional transportation vision. 
  • Describe the significance of the nominee's contributions to promoting and planning for a diverse regional transportation network which helps to shape the way people travel throughout Central Florida.

 

4. Honorable Ray LaHood Award - Recognizes a man who is a leader in transportation and has contributed to the advancement of women and minorities in transportation.

  • Describe why this nominee deserves to win.
  • Describe how the nominee has demonstrated that they are a leader in transportation and outline their outstanding contributions to the transportation industry.
  • Describe how the nominee has directly contributed to the advancement of women and minorities through programs or opportunities in the transportation field. 
  • Describe how the nominee has led by example, sought out opportunities to advance and advocate for women in his own organization, and has actively ensured that women are able to compete for key positions of authority within that organization.
  • Describe how your nominee has advanced the reputation and credibility of women in transportation throughout his career.

 

5. Innovative Transportation Solutions Award - Salutes an innovative transportation project led by a woman.

  • Describe why this nominee deserves to win.
  • Describe the purpose of the innovative transportation initiative, solution, project, or policy and how the project achieved its purpose, including the number of women involved.
  • Identify the key elements of the project and how the female project manager successfully implemented those elements. 
  • Illustrate how the female project manager successfully met and overcame challenges.

 

6. Member of the Year Award - Recognizes a WTS member who has made extraordinary contributions to the success of the organization.

  • Describe why this nominee deserves to win.
  • Describe how the nominee has shown extraordinary commitment to the goals and growth of WTS. 
  • Describe how the nominee has effectively promoted the reputation of WTS within the transportation industry.
  • Describe how the nominee has worked to strengthen communication between the local and national level, or between WTS chapters.
  • Describe how the nominee has done an outstanding job of revitalizing or expanding a chapter or any of its functions.

 

7. Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award - An organization or individual that has significantly contributed to the promotion of diversity, inclusion, and multicultural awareness within their organization and the transportation industry.

  • Describe why this nominee deserves to win.
  • Outline how the nominee has significantly contributed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multi-cultural awareness within their organization.
  • Describe how the nominee has significantly contributed to the promotion of diversity, inclusion, and multi-cultural awareness within the transportation industry.
  • Describe how the nominee significantly contributed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multi-cultural awareness within a project or activity that supports the goals and mission of WTS.
  • Describe the nominee's extraordinary efforts and support of initiatives to facilitate professional opportunities for women and minorities.

 

8. Woman of the Year Award - Honors a woman who is an outstanding role model and has contributed to the advancement of women and minorities in transportation.

  • Describe why this nominee deserves to win.
  • Describe how the nominee has demonstrated that she is a leader in transportation and outline her outstanding contributions to the industry. 
  • Describe how the nominee has directly contributed to the advancement of women and minorities through programs or opportunities in the transportation field.
  • Describe how the nominee has advanced the reputation and credibility of women in transportation through her own accomplishments and support of women in the industry.
