WTS International COVID-19 Update

Organizations across North America and the world are operating in a complex and rapidly evolving environment. WTS International is responding to the outbreak in an effort to mitigate health risks to members and stakeholders. Here are the latest WTS International updates concerning the outbreak:

Suspending the Annual Conference

After careful consideration and discussion with the WTS International Board of Directors, we have made the decision to suspend all WTS International events until further notice. The Annual Conference and its surrounding activities, in Phoenix, Arizona, will not take place May 19-22.  We are evaluating events beyond May 31, 2020 at this time and will provide communications as decisions are made.

WTS International has been closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as national, state and local governments. While the planning of a great conference was underway, we do not feel confident that we could ensure the safety and wellbeing of the hundreds of attendees that would be joining us from across North America.

We are continuing to evaluate the best path forward and creative ways on how we can bring this important event to you and the many transportation professionals who planned to be a part of The New West Conference. As our creative brainstorming unfolds, we will be back in touch. We will work to refund or credit registrations starting April 15th, after next steps have been finalized. If you booked your hotel reservation at the Arizona Biltmore, through our reservation link, your hotel reservation will be canceled tomorrow, Friday March 19th, and an email confirmation will be sent to you. If you booked outside of our reservation link or at another hotel you must contact your hotel directly to cancel.

Enacting our Business Continuity Plan

On Monday, March 16, in an effort to protect the health and well-being of staff, WTS International began operating on a virtual basis. Rest assured, we are not suspending or closing operations. We will continue to serve you and conduct our business on a remote basis until further notice. We will notify partners of these changes and to expect delays to our check processing in the short-term. We encourage you to connect with us via email with the use of membership@wtsinternational.org, conference@wtsinternational.org, or comms@wtsinternational.org.

Facing Challenges Together

Media outlets have reported many incidents of discrimination towards Asian Americans, especially on public transit and other transportation modes. Unsupported by evidence, Anti-Asian sentiment has developed in communities and government throughout the U.S. with the fear that they may be carrying the COVID-19 virus. As an industry, we need to discourage xenophobia and discrimination. This industry will play an important role in fighting the outbreak by taking proper sanitation measures and limiting users when appropriate. WTS has always stood for diversity and inclusion as a matter of achieving equity and accessibility in the transportation industry and will continue to do so in the face of this pandemic.

WTS extends our gratitude to the professionals across our industry, making tough calls, and using the best resources to meet the transportation and safety needs of individuals across North America and beyond.
