Advancing Women in Transportation

WTS International Starts the Year at the Annual 2019 Winter Reception

On January 13th, WTS International hosted its 2019 Winter Reception in Washington, DC. Despite the snow, more than 250 attendees joined the annual reception to connect with one another and foster relationships within the industry. Held annually, in conjunction with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting, this year’s reception highlighted WTS’ history of member involvement and chapter leadership as well as WTS’ continued commitment to diversity.

Maggie Walsh, WTS International Chair, welcomed attendees and encouraged them to get to know the Board as one way of making WTS work for you. Find the full board list here.

Then, Therese McMillan, Chief Planning Officer at Los Angeles Metro, invited attendees and their peers to join the 6th International Conference on Women's Issues in Transportation. This year's theme is "Insights, Inclusion, and Impact: Framing the Future for Women in Transportation."

Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and WTS International Woman of the Year, Secretary Leslie Richard communicated the importance of getting a seat at the table and helping fellow women to do so. Many took a picture with Secretary Richards to "show their bosses how you get connected to PDOT."

WTS is committed to fostering relationships within the transportation community as well as implementing policies that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Beginning the year with more than 250 passionate members reminded us even more of why that mission matters.
