WTS Extends Reach to Brazil

Brazil

Building the future of transportation through the global advancement of women.

WTS members are looking to expand into Latin America by forming a WTS International chapter in the country of Brazil.

Brazil, a shining star of the global economy, will play host to two of the world’s largest events: the 2014 FIFA World Cup Finals and the 2016 Olympics. It is revitalizing and expanding infrastructure. Stadiums are being constructed, roadways are being built, airports are being remodeled, and a high-speed rail line is linking Rio and Brazil’s financial capital, Sao Paulo. And in 2011, Dilma Vana Rousseff began her term as the county’s first female president.

São Paulo, the largest city in Brazil, and seventh largest in the world by population, hosts some of the world’s leading transportation industries. Urban transportation in São Paulo consists of a complex system with many subsystems. On a daily basis, people from the various municipalities and the metropolitan area of São Paulo travel into the city, so there are transportation needs on a regional and municipal scale.

Rio de Janeiro, in addition to representing the second largest GDP in the country, is home to many universities and institutes, and represents a large center of national scientific production. Major oil, mining, and communication companies are located in Rio, and it is one of the most visited cities in the southern hemisphere.

Be part of WTS Brazil, the first WTS chapter in South America.

There is no better time to expand WTS International into Latin America. WTS is looking for transportation professionals: engineers, urban planners, architects, and individuals in related fields who want to join us to make history.

Workforce development through the attraction, retention, and advancement of women is WTS International's mission, and it is key to the success of the global transportation industry.

If your company has offices in Brazil, or is going to open one, we would like to talk to you about reaching out to potential members who would benefit from a local WTS International chapter.

To connect us with transportation professionals in Brazil, or if you would like to become involved in with the formation of the WTS Brazil Chapter, please contact WTS Chapter Development Director, Tiffany Jackson, at tjackson@wtsinternational.org or by phone: +1-202-955-5085, or you may contact a member of the WTS International Brazil steering committee:

Kim Haas, kim@haas-media.com

Leila Weissling, lbweissling@gmail.com

Brittany Montgomery, bnmont@gmail.com

Members of the steering committee speak Brazilian Portuguese, and are open to your ideas and suggestions on raising local awareness about this important initiative.
