WTS Congratulates Therese McMillan on New Post

March 4, 2016—(Washington, DC) Marcia Ferranto, President and CEO of WTS International, the association whose mission is to build the future of transportation through the global advancement of women, released a statement regarding Therese McMillan’s new Role as Chief Planning Officer with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro):

Ms. McMillan has done tremendous work advancing women while in her role as Acting Administrator for the Federal Transit Administration at the U.S. Department of Transportation, and has worked tirelessly around opportunities to attract and retain women in the industry as well. She is a pillar of inspiration to women in all stages of the transportation career cycle, serving as role model, mentor, and leader. We look forward to her achievements while serving Los Angeles County.

During her tenure at the FTA, Ms. McMillan has played an integral leadership role in advancing several critical FTA priorities to improve the quality and delivery of transit services to the American public, including:

  • Leading a major reassessment and reform of FTA’s Civil Rights responsibilities, including new guidance for transit grantees in Title VI and Environmental Justice.
  • Overseeing the restructuring FTA’s grant oversight and compliance programs.
  • Representing federal transit interests on the Partnership for Sustainable Communities with fellow DOT colleagues, EPA and HUD.
