WTS 2016 Central Region Conference Success

The WTS Central Region Conference held last month in Indianapolis was a success. Over 100 WTS members, including chapter leaders and board members, convened for this special event featuring topics relevant in the WTS Central Region.
The Central Region Council, chaired by Kirsten Bowen of WTS NE Ohio, coordinated the robust program with educational content featuring high-profile speakers and thought leaders. Typical industry presentations included a panel discussion, “How do State Departments of Transportation prioritize infrastructure when dealing with funding constraints?” with Brandye Hendrickson, INDOT Commissioner, and Randy Blankenhorn, IDOT Secretary, moderated by Grace Crunican, General Manager, Bay Area Rapid Transit System (BART) and former Director of the Oregon DOT. Other sessions included a DBE Panel discussion, as well as sessions on passenger rail, intelligent transportation systems, and the multi-generational workforce. The agenda also included a panel discussion with Boots on the Ground, Flats in the Boardroom authors and contributors, Grace Crunican; Shirley DeLibero, former CEO Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (Houston Metro); Elizabeth Levin, President, Liz Levin & Company and former Board of Directors of MassDOT and the MBTA; and Mary Peters, President, Mary E. Peters Consulting Group, Board of Directors of HDR Inc., and former US Secretary of Transportation.
The WTS Indianapolis Chapter and Central Region Council member Sarah Baty served as the local hosts for the conference, which began with a welcome dinner.  This local-flavor event featured Donald Davidson, the official historian of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500, who spoke about how women shaped the 100-year history of the iconic race.
Based on the success and overwhelming interest in this event by members in the region, the Central Region Council has decided to plan another conference in 2018, stay tuned for an announcement about the host city and dates to be announced later this year!
