Advancing Women in Transportation

TxDOT Horseshoe DBE Heavy Highway Training

January 27, 2014 12:05 PM

The Dallas Horseshoe Project is a $798 million design-build roadway construction project by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to improve traffic flow through the heart of downtown Dallas. Aptly dubbed the "Horseshoe project" due to its U shape, the project is dedicated to "Fixin' the Mix". Construction improvements include the expansion, repaving and addition of several new bridges and roadways along interstates 30 and 35E; and the construction of a new signature bridge, the Margaret McDermott Bridge, over I-30.

The Design Builder selected for the project, Pegasus Link Constructors (PLC), will be offering a training program aimed at providing capacity building training for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) firms.

PLC will be offering technical training for DBE firms that are currently working on the Horseshoe Project, firms interested in performing work on future TxDOT projects, or firms interested in future projects managed by the PLC joint venture partners of Fluor Corporation and Balfour Beatty Infrastructure.

Training program topics will include:

* Construction management

* Business management

* Business accounting

* Financial and capital management

* Business and construction law

* Marketing and business development

* Joint ventures and strategic partnerships

* Bonding and surety support
