The WTS Nominations Committee has selected the best balance of individuals who reflect the principles of the Board and who will work together to further advance the WTS Toronto Area Chapter. These individuals serve as the 2019 Board of Directors.
TREASURER
FRANCES LAU (METROLINX)
Frances is a Senior Manager, Business Relationship Management and Business Analysis with Metrolinx. In this position, she is accountable for delivering successful customer experience through consulting and planning for best value for money business enabling technology and ideas to 12 diverse business groups. She also leads the Business Relationship Management (BRM) team enabling business technology, consulting and strategic customer interactions for Metrolinx. Frances holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Windsor and participated in the Executive Management Program from Queen’s University.

DANIEL HAUFSCHILD (ARUP)
Daniel is a Principal with Arup where he is responsible for leading integrated planning for Canada and focusing on delivering integrated urban policy and infrastructure solutions. Daniel is a trained city planner, experienced in master planning and the implementation and operation of transportation infrastructure and services that contribute to wider city building objectives. During his career, he worked for five years at the municipal level in planning and public works, including working for regional planning authorities such as Metro King County in Seattle and Metrolinx in Toronto. He joined the WSP family of companies in 1999, where held progressively more senior positions across the company, becoming a partner in 2006, and returning to WSP in 2014 to lead the national Urban Mobility practice.

JUDY FARVOLDEN (UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH INSTITUTE)
Judy Farvolden, Director (University of Toronto Transportation Research Institute) Judy is the founding Program Director of the University of Toronto Transportation Research Institute (UTTRI). UTTRI is an initiative that brings the considerable depth and breadth of University of Toronto research to bear on real-world urban transportation challenges from the perspectives of engineering, humanities and science. Judy brings the perspectives of her education as an engineer and an urban planner and her professional experience working both inside academia and as a Senior Manager in the “real world” of banking, finance and technology. Judy has a PhD from Princeton in Transportation and Optimization and a master’s degree in planning from the University of Toronto.

SARAH CURRIE (TORONTO TRANSIT COMMISSION)
Sarah is a Project Coordinator for the Human Resources Department at the Toronto Transit Commission. She is experienced in strategic communications and event management, with over 10 years of experience in the transit and transportation industry. In her professional roles, Sarah has gained a wealth of experience in successfully executing media relations campaigns, developing relationships with influencers and stakeholders, managing public consultation events and guiding issues management initiatives, among others, to support the achievement of strategic objectives. Sarah is active in the WTS Toronto Area Chapter and served as the Programs Committee Chair/Co-Chair since its inception in 2013.

BOARD ADMINISTRATOR


JAMES YU (CITY OF TORONTO)
James is a Project Lead for the Transportation Services Division at the City of Toronto. Over the course of his tenure with the City, James has acquired in depth knowledge of municipal finance, policy development and municipal governance. In his current role, he is responsible for the annual and multi-year operating budgets for Transportation Services. Additionally, James has been a champion of engagement initiatives such as Toronto Public Service Week and the annual United Way Campaign. As a former Chair of Gen-Next, a sub-group of the United Way focused on the engagement of young professionals, James brought together people from across the corporation to support the tremendous work of the United Way. He also holds a Master of Public Policy, Administration and Law degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree, both from York University.
