Sara Stickler, executive director, WTS International, attended the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) TRANSfrom Conference in New York City earlier this month. She was joined by numerous members of the International Board of Directors, industry partners, and WTS members.

At the conference, APTA announced their 2019-2020 executive committee members and board of directors, including Nuria Fernandez as chair, a long-time champion of WTS. “It is an honor to take the reins of the association that represents the industry that has been part of my life throughout my 39-year career,” said Fernandez.

The WTS Greater New York (WTS-GNY) Chapter exhibited WTS at the conference and spoke to attendees about opportunities in the industry. WTS International co-hosted a breakfast with APTA entitled “TRANSformational Influence—Women and Power.”

The breakfast brought together some of the most powerful women in the industry to discuss their journeys to the top, and how others can follow their lead. “The breakfast and the conference as a whole demonstrated the expanded role women play in the transportation industry,” Stickler said. “It is promising to see as an industry ally.”

Maggie Walsh, chair, WTS International; vice president, HDR provided opening remarks. Featured speakers included Veronique Hakim, member, APTA Board of Directors; managing director, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, New York, NY, Polly Trottenberg, commissioner, New York City Department of Transportation, New York, NY, and Hon. K. Jane Williams, acting administrator, Federal Transit Administration, Washington, DC.

The Annual Meeting, hosted by New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) and Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), was a reimagined take on their flagship event.
