Florida is the nation’s third most populous state and the fifth-fastest growing state, and has the second-fastest growing economy. To enable its growth, it has a transportation network that ranges from seaports to spaceports, from bike paths to bridges and from railroads to roads. Its transportation system supports the 16th largest economy in the world, so Alexandra Lopez, P.E., intelligent transportation systems (ITS) project manager for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six, doesn’t have any dull days.
“My work allows me to take part in innovative and groundbreaking decisions every day that have a direct impact on the daily lives of the citizens in our community. My job is high paced, and there’s never a dull moment,” Lopez shares.
"The outlook is excellent. There are many opportunities available for engineers in the transportation industry.”
