New Orleans, Kansas City Chapters Forming

WTS International chapters are important delivery channels that advance the association’s mission by providing WTS programs and benefits to members on a local level. We are excited to share the news about core teams forming to expand the reach of WTS and work toward ratification of new WTS International chapters.

The Kansas City area has long been a transportation hub, stemming from its days as the starting point of the Pony Express and its role in the expansion of America’s railroads. Today, Kansas City is home to dozens of engineering firms, Class I railroads and a growing logistics community. But one thing is missing--a Greater Kansas City Chapter of WTS.  Melissa Thomson, long-time WTS member and Immediate Past President of WTS Greater Chicago, is initiating chapter formation in Kansas City. She is looking to connect with women and men in the area who share the common goals of advancing women in transportation. To connect with Melissa and learn more about efforts to bring a WTS chapter to the Greater Kansas City Area, contact her at 913-458-2168 or thomsonma@bv.com.

New Orleans is also a major transportation hub and a leader in production of crude oil and natural gas processing facilities. The city is located along the Mississippi River and is a world-famous tourist destination due to its multicultural heritage, music, and cuisine.  An extensive network of buses and streetcars winds through every neighborhood with a ridership of 15 million passenger trips each year. WTS members Carol Short and Sefla Fuhrman, from the University of New Orleans, have been connecting with scholars and professionals to start formation of the WTS NOLA Chapter, the first WTS chapter in Louisiana.  To learn more about local chapter development efforts and to get involved, contact Carol Short at cshort2@uno.edu or Sefla Fuhrman at snfuhrma@uno.edu.

To form a new WTS International chapter and become ratified by the WTS International Board, chapter membership of 20 or more members is required. Kansas City and New Orleans are now available as chapter affiliation options for new and renewing members.

If you are interested in finding out more about WTS International chapter formation, please contact Chapter Development Director, Tiffany Jackson at tjackson@wtsinternational.org .
