WTS Central Region Conference

WTS-KC members Gina Murphy (CDM Smith), Rachel Henkhaus (Garver), and Melissa Thomson (TREKK Design Group) joined more than 100 WTS members from around the Midwest for the annual Central Region Conference. Hosted by the Columbus Chapter, the conference featured a number of sessions focused on issues and topics around the region.

The Columbus Chapter welcomed conference goers Wednesday evening at their annual awards and scholarship event. The next morning, the conference kicked off with a look at the past, present and future of Columbus. Local historian Ed Lentz, executive director of the Columbus Landmarks Foundation, gave us a look into the city’s rich history, while Aparna Dial, deputy director/Smart Columbus Program Manager, shared the city’s look into the future as the winner of the USDOT’s Smart Cities Grant.

Panel discussions throughout the explored the ways different Midwest metropolitan areas are approaching bus rapid transit and how states are handling the often difficult subject of project funding and the FAST Act. MoDOT’s Jennifer Harper shared the innovations Missouri is exploring as part of their Road to Tomorrow initiative.  The conference ended with a team building lesson courtesy of ImprovEdge, a local group that combines professional development with improvisational skills.

The conference offered ample opportunities for networking, including a luncheon trivia competition and a networking reception for all attendees. We're already looking forward to the 2018 Central Region Conference!
