Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to our 2018 WTS-KC Scholarship Winners! 

HummelSharon D. Banks Undergraduate Scholarship: Maggie Hummel, Rockhurst University/University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Maggie Hummel is currently a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the joint program between Rockhurst University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is also a Transportation Intern with Garver, president of her sorority, vice president of the Engineering Sustainability Club, and a University Ambassador. Maggie also actively gives back to the community. In her service trips, most recently to the Dominican Republic in January, Maggie has had the opportunity to observe firsthand the interdependence between well-designed infrastructure and quality of life. Through her academics, co-curriculars and internship, she hopes to continue to develop her technical and leadership skills to be able to assist in the development of sustainable and accessible infrastructure in third world countries.

 

 

 

GundaHelene M. Overly Graduate Scholarship: Nikhila Gunda, University of Kansas.

Nikhila Gunda is currently pursuing her second master’s degree in Construction Management and Transportation Engineering at the University of Kansas. She also has a master’s degree in Urban Planning with a specialization in Transportation Planning KU. Her academic areas of interest include transportation, sustainability, complete streets, planning sustainable places, ITS, construction safety, architecture and design. She received the New Horizon Student Award in 2017; an individual student award at the American Planning Association Kansas Chapter Conference for a project paper and the MV Transportation Scholarship in 2017 for an applied research project relating to public transportation in the City of Lawrence, Kansas.
