WTS Salem Event: The State of Transportation

Come hear from three amazing women who wield influence on transportation issues in the halls of power in Oregon's capital. An illustrious panel of prominent women from ODOT will discuss: (1) events that most influenced their career path to their current role, (2) what they see as the most important future transportation issues trending now, (3) leading to a discussion of the gaps and needed skills for transportation professionals moving forward.

Salem women speak of career paths and views on emerging transportation issues.

Come hear from three amazing women who wield influence on transportation issues in the halls of power in Oregon's capitol. An illustrious panel of prominent women from ODOT will discuss: (1) events that most influenced their career path to their current role, (2) what they see as the most important future transportation issues trending now, (3) leading to a discussion of the gaps and needed skills for transportation professionals moving forward.

ODOT Director Matthew Garrett will kick-off this event, which is designed to build participation in Salem and provide opportunities for male and female professionals and students in the mid-Willamette Valley. The panel of speakers includes:

Jerri Bohard, ODOT Transportation Development Division Administrator
Cathy Nelson, ODOT Technical Services Manager/Chief Engineer
Amanda Pietz, ODOT Transportation Planning Unit Manager

Bring your own brown bag lunch or order a box lunch to pick up at the event sandwiches come with sourdough bread, country style potato salad, fruit salad, and a chocolate dipped cookie. Boxed lunches are from Jill Severson at Elegant Catering. Please email Tara if you have any special dietary needs.

Driving direction from the north (Portland)

  • Take Interstate 5 south to Exit 258 North Salem/Fairgrounds
  • Turn right onto Portland Road
  • Continue onto Fairgrounds Road
  • Take a slight left to Summer Street
  • Turn left on Center Street
  • Turn right on Capitol Street

Driving Directions from the south (Eugene)

  • Take Interstate 5 north to Exit 253 Oregon 22/Mission Street
  • Turn left onto Mission Street/Oregon 22
  • Take the City Center/Capitol Exit
  • Continue north on 12th Street
  • Turn left on Chemeketa Street
  • Turn right on Capitol Street

Parking

Metered parking is available around the perimeter of the Transportation Building and on the streets surrounding the Capitol Mall and other buildings. There are also several nearby pay lots (http://oregon.gov/DAS/EAM/FPS/Pages/options_daily.aspx).

People with disabilities: There are parking spots located on Capitol Street (the McDonald’s side) in front of the Transportation Building where people with disabled placards can park.

Entrance and Security

These two main entries (“east” from the Capitol Street/McDonald’s side and “west” from the Capitol Mall) are open during regular business hours – Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Employees with authorized ID/access badges can use any of the three employee-only (card reader-secured) entrance doors located around the perimeter: the tunnel door in the basement and the two side stair entrances that face Capitol Street/McDonald’s. These doors will remain locked at all times and can be accessed by swiping your ID/access badge. All ODOT employees (permanent, temporary, limited duration) who are not building residents will automatically be given Access Level 2, which will allow limited card reader access Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (access to the elevators and main stairs on level 1 and into the common areas of the building). An employee without an ODOT ID badge will be required to check in at the reception desk and obtain a visitor badge.
  • Visitors and employees without ID/access badges must stop by the lobby reception desk to get a temporary badge. All employees and visitors/guests are required to wear an ID/access badge at all times in the Transportation Building.
