Speaker         Joanna Jacob, Executive Vice President

Since February 2011, Joanna has worked at Ferrari Public Affairs, a government and public relations firm providing local, state, and federal lobbying and regulatory consulting services to clients across the country. She has held a variety of positions there, progressing from legislative analyst and policy director, to her currently position of Executive Vice President. She has forged strong legislative relationships, and has quickly become known for her knowledge of issues and commitment to success.

She has primarily worked on issues relating to construction and health policy in the state, as well as general business issues. She has sat as an observer on the Nevada Department of Transportation’s selection of a construction manager at risk (CMAR) on two public works projects, and has worked on diverse issues from contractor licensing, to fuel tax indexing and prevailing wage matters,  to implementation of the Nevada Silver State Health Insurance Exchange and statewide Medicaid policy.

Prior to moving to Nevada in 2010, Joanna, a licensed attorney in California, practiced law for four years, beginning in San Diego, California, where she represented clients before the civil, family and probate courts for two years, primarily in the areas of consumer protection, trust and probate litigation, and elder financial abuse, with some experience in land use litigation.

In 2009, she relocated to San Francisco, and took a position as Associate/Research Attorney with Millstein & Associates, where she worked on complex civil ligation matters and interstate disputes. Her clients included individuals and small businesses throughout the Bay Area. She is licensed to practice before all courts in the state of California.

Joanna has a history of commitment to public interest law and community service. While at California Western, Joanna interned for Affordable Housing Advocates in San Diego, Sofia Immigration in San Diego, and at the San Diego City Attorney's Office, Civil Division.

At the office of the San Diego City Attorney she worked primarily in the areas of land use and redevelopment, and on litigation surrounding the City of San Diego's pension crisis.

Her political experience before coming to Nevada includes managing a campaign for the City Attorney of San Diego, and membership of the candidate endorsement committee with Run Women Run, a political action committee in San Diego County. Her prior board affiliations include: San Diego County NOW (Treasurer); Affordable Housing Advocates, San Diego (Secretary); and the Girls Think Tank (Membership).  She also served as Treasurer for California NOW (the National Organization for Women).  She is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the Nevada Women’s Lobby, and in 2016, was appointed to a seven year term on the Board of Directors for the Nevada Women’s Fund.

Joanna was raised in Newport, Rhode Island, and lived in Boston, Massachusetts, for many years prior to relocating west and remains an avid Boston Red Sox fan to this day.
