WTS-Boston Summer Tour

11:45 AM - 01:30 PM Eastern Standard Time

The Chelsea Street Bridge is a vertical-lift bridge that carries Chelsea Street between East Boston, Massachusetts, and Chelsea, Massachusetts, over the Chelsea Creek. It reopened to traffic on May 12, 2012, after a $125.3M construction project replaced the previous drawbridge. The span is 450 feet with a vertical clearance of 175 feet. There are two lanes and a sidewalk in each direction.

Through this bridge tour by boat, WTS-Boston guests will hear and be shown the different stages of construction it took to build the Chelsea Street Bridge.  There were very impressive lifts done on the project which will be discussed in more detail.

Introductions and overview will be provided by Richard DeSantis, P.E., Assistant District Construction Engineer, MassDOT Highway Division - District 4, Daniel Casaletto, Boston Construction Area Engineer – MassDOT Highway Division - Boston, and Brian Zilinsky, Resident Engineer for Construction, MassDOT Highway Division - District 4.
