Competition for young adults (aged 8-16) to build their ideal city block out of Legos. Volunteers needed for: Speaking about your professional experience at the "town hall meeting" for about 10 minutes to encourage/help the kids with their building. Judging the city blocks construction.

Using familiar LEGO building bricks, potential city builders construct model city blocks to represent their own vision of an ideal place. Youth are encouraged to work in teams of family members, neighbors, and/or friends.

All registered entries attend a LEGO Town Hall Meeting where detailed instructions are given during a discussions of community and urban planning by city officials, and professionals.

The competition rubric challenges youth to reflect on what makes a great community as they complete a virtual city block to scale in a time frame of four weeks. The city block sections are then brought together and collaboratively assembled into a community of six complete city blocks within a time frame of two hours. Youth are judged on creativity, concept of a community block, and a narrative description of each individual’s entry to the specific contributions that promotes a healthy environment, a healthy economy, and a socially just community. Particular emphasis is place on the display of cooperation with one another.

The 2015 theme "TINY HOUSE ZONING UPDATES & TRANSPORTATION. has an intense focus on creativity with visualization. Building events such as these, help youth analyze what matters most, find their voice, and thing twice about how actions today provide ideas that change community for a better future; for Great Communities Make Great Cities.
