NEPA Professional Development Workshop

WTS Chicago will be hosting a joint Professional Development workshop with the Illinois Association of Environmental Professionals (IAEP) covering the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Earn three (3) PDHs.  Networking event immediately following the workshop.  
This workshop will include an overview by government, legal, and engineering planning experts culminating with a hands-on session featuring case studies.  Presenters (see below for biographies) will include Ronald Deverman of HNTB, Kenneth Westlake of the U.S. EPA Region V, and two Attorneys from Quarles & Brady Cynthia Faur and Peter Tomasi, all experts in NEPA topics.
Ronald Deverman, Renee Kuruc, and Emma Kowalenko will facilitate the hands on portion of the workshop with a focus on the preparation of NEPA Environmental Assessments (EAs) as related to specific case studies and scenarios.
Ken Westlake, a career employee of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Regional office in Chicago.  Since 2000, has managed the organization responsible for implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. 
Cynthia Faur of Quarles & Brady has more than 20 years experience in the area of environmental law. In her practice, she advises clients in all aspects of environmental regulation, including NEPA, solid and hazardous waste regulation, clean water issues, endangered species issues, and Superfund. Ms. Faur is with Quarles & Brady.
Peter Tomasi of Quarles & Brady practices in the areas of environmental permitting and environmental litigation. Peter advises clients on environmental compliance issues arising under NEPA, the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act as well as natural resource issues associated with renewable generation.
Ronald Deverman is Associate Vice-President and Principal Environmental Planning Manager for HNTB, a national engineering, architecture and planning firm. Ron has 30-years-experience in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) with special expertise in community impact assessment, cumulative effects analysis, and federal environmental regulations, such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and Threatened and Endangered Species Act.  Ron is currently the Program Manager for IDOT’s Division of Public and Intermodal Transportation for the CREATE Program, a program of 70 rail improvement projects in the Chicago area.
