What is Future City?

The Future City Competition is a national, project-based learning experience where students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades imagine, design, and build cities of the future. Students work in teams with an educator and engineer mentor to plan cities using SimCity™ software. Each team researches and writes solutions to an engineering problem, builds tabletop scale models with recycled materials, and presents their ideas to judges at Regional Competitions in January. Regional winners represent their regions at the National Finals in Washington, D.C., in February.

This year's topic:   This year’s theme is “Powering Our Future” and centers on designing an electrical grid that can withstand and recover from a natural disaster.
